Staying motivated is no easy task, especially when you are on the road or just plain too busy with life. This is where my interview with Lewis Howes, mastermind behind The School of Greatness, comes in. Lewis has always had a very active life. He grew up playing sports. Even played collegiate football, decathlon and basketball. After college he played Arena League football.
His journey with online marketing products and programs, and now The School of Greatness began after getting injured playing Arena League football. This was no easy journey by any means, but it did help him to fully understand his niche.
His audience consisted of people who are looking to grow their life and learn, and to develop tools to help them get to the next leveling their life. Some of it was health related. Some of it was business related. This is where The School of Greatness comes into play. The vision was to make his audience broader. He wanted to help people grow from a struggling situation or a situation that is good but they really weren’t feeling like they were getting the best of what they could get. The driving question being:
How can you go from pretty good or maybe not good to the best of your potential? Having established himself as an author and entrepreneur, he finds himself very busy. However, despite being a busy person, Lewis still finds time to have a consistent workout and health routine.
This, for me, is something important to take note. One of the main topics that runs across my table is that people are so busy that they don’t have time to workout or eat healthy. When it comes to your health and fitness, you should always make the time. Below, Lewis Howes shares how he stays on track with his fitness.
5 WAYS TO STAY ON TRACK WITH YOUR FITNESS WITH LEWIS HOWES
1. HAVE A REASON TO STAY FIT AND HEALTHY.
Keep your eyes on the prize.
You need a reason why you wanna stay fit and healthy.
The busier you get the more important it is for you to stay focused of your fitness goals.
Setting up this foundation keeps you from getting distractedfrom the demands of life.
2. KNOW WHAT TYPES OF FITNESS YOU CAN DO WHILE TRAVELING.
Traveling tends to be one of the hardest things to do while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
I found what Lewis had to share very insightful.
He knows what workouts he wants to do.
He usually tries to do High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts whenever he can, or at least the elliptical or run.
Lewis can do a 15-20 minute HIIT training and get a total body workout.
One of the best things about HIIT is that you don’t need a ton of fancy equipment to do it, this is good to note because it lessens the burden of trying to find a gym to workout at while on the road.
Take a look at how Lewis does them. He does the HIIT workouts in his hotel room if he needs to. like, dips on the bed, jump-ups, core, planking and do just 4 or 5 rounds of that and be exhausted.
3. STAY COMMITTED TO NOT MISSING A WORKOUT.
No matter what, Lewis does not miss two days in a row of working out.
I think setting a goal like this super helpful to staying focused.
Lewis explains how this method helped him recently.
He didn’t get to workout one day because he was traveling around for the holiday weekend, and then something happened when he was supposed to workout and had only 10 minutes so he decided to do it later.
Later ended up being eleven o’clock at night. At that time all he wanted to do was watch a movie and sit there on his couch.
He had to tell himself that he was committed to never missing a workout two days in a row so he got up and started on the elliptical. He didn’t want to do anything crazy because he didn’t want to have a hard time going to bed.
The take away was that even when life was super busy he still found time to workout even though it was late at night.
Something someone once told him on one of his podcasts was this: “If you’re too busy that you don’t have an hour to two hours to give to yourself everyday then you don’t have a life.”
4. KNOW YOUR BIGGEST STRUGGLE WHEN STAYING ON TOP OF YOUR FITNESS.
This struggle could be with food or sweets. Either way, this weakness is intensified when traveling.
Lewis, for example, shares that one of his biggest struggles is with sweets.
If he knows a trip is coming up where he’ll be exposed to a lot of sweets, he prepares for that. He allows his body some breathing room.
The key is to listen to your body. If he feels like his body is gaining weight or feels lethargic, then he knows it’s time to cut these things out for awhile.
5. KNOW HOW BEING ACTIVE WITH YOUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS IMPACTS YOUR PERSONAL AND BUSINESS LIFE.
Being active does something to you and recognizing this is key. As Lewis explains, working out consistently makes him feel unstoppable both emotionally and mentally.
He feels like any challenge in life that comes to him either personally or business related he can approach these emotions and energy so differently
Staying active in your health and wellness makes you more intentional about how you respond to situations, instead of constantly reacting.
Thank you, and Remember, J.a.m.o.d.i.
It’s just a matter of doing it!
